Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Latest Feature Film “Broker” wins Ecumenical Jury Award for Best Film at Cannes Film Festival. Song Kang-Ho wins the Best Actor Award GAGA, Fuji Television Network and AOI Pro. distribute the film in Japan

Song Kang-Ho wins the Best Actor Award

Tokyo – We are honored to announce Hirokazu Kore-eda’s latest feature Film “Broker” has won the Ecumenical Jury Award for Best Film at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. The film took home two major awards at the festival with lead actor Song Kang-Ho winning the Best Actor Award. He is the first Korean male ever to win an acting award at Cannes. This is also the first time in 18 years that an actor directed by Kore-eda has won the Best Actor Award since Japanese actor Yuya Yagira for Koreeda's feature film "Nobody Knows" in the 57th Competition in 2004. 

After the official screening of "Broker" on May 26th local time, it received a 12-minute standing ovation, the longest of all the films at the festival this year. The film captivated the entire audience and was met with thunderous applause.

On May 28th local time, the final day of the festival, the award ceremony of the competition section was held, where it was announced that Song Kang-Ho won the Best Actor Award.

The Ecumenical Jury Award for Best Film is one of the independent awards in Cannes. The Ecumenical jury, which includes members of the Christian cinema groups Interfilm (Protestant) and Signis (Catholic), chooses the best film from the Cannes competition that “best touches the spiritual component of our existence.”

“Broker” is Hirokazu Kore-eda’s first feature film set in Korea.  AOI Pro. is one of the film partners involved in the distribution of the film in Japan along with GAGA and Fuji Television Network. The film is about people who become involved through a “Baby Box,” where people who cannot raise children can leave their babies anonymously. South Korean stars are featured in the film, including Song Kang-ho (Academy🄬 Best Picture winner “Parasite,” 2019),  Kang Dong-won (“Master,” 2016), Bae Doona (Kore-eda's “Air Doll,” 2009), and the popular artist IU aka Lee Ji-eun. Lee Joo-young(“Itaewon Class”) also joins the cast.
